I don’t often laugh at things the current President does or says he’s thinking about doing. In fact, his policies usually make me despair. And/or cringe.
But I read about something that’s on *CF Trump’s policy table that literally made me lol.
Get this-
He is proposing a “National Medal of Motherhood” to moms in the United States who have six or more children. Once again he is taking a page of out Hitler’s playbook- the Fuhrer introduced a similar “Cross of Honour of the German Mother”- with the obvious exception of Jewish mothers. There was a Bronze Cross for mothers of four or five children, a Silver Cross for moms of six or seven kids, and The Gold Cross for mothers of eight or more children. Kind of like a motherhood Olympics. I wonder if there was a podium where the moms could receive their awards or if they were too busy caring for their kids to attend.
Back to Trump- lest you think he hasn’t thought this through, each baby would come with a cash bonus of $5000. Wow, right?
The last I heard, it costs about a million dollars to raise a child. So, although I wasn’t a math major, it seems like 5K wouldn’t go that far. With this whole tariff kerfuffle, toys for the holidays alone this year might cost that much.
I feel like if Trump is truly serious about boosting our population he needs to up the ante. A lot. That medal needs to come with a house big enough for all those tikes. And childcare. Perhaps a grocery allowance could be part of the package. Despite having only three sons, my weekly expenditure at the grocery store used to be quite considerable. I can’t imagine doubling that bill. Then there’s the matter of shoes and clothes- some clothes can be passed down but sneakers? My boys could destroy a pair of sneakers in a matter of months. Sometimes less. Then there’s dental care- my sons all needed braces. And that Tooth Fairy doesn’t come cheap- when I was a child I used to get a quarter per tooth. My boys got $5. Even if the Tooth Fairy hasn’t yet raised her fee to adjust for inflation, that’s 100 bucks per mouth (each kid has 20 baby teeth). Times 6. Yikes!
Then there’s college tuition- let’s not forget that Trump has cut Federal loans and grants. If Trump is really serious about this six-kid thing, free college and a new minivan every eight years might sweeten his offer. As well as lots of paid maternity and paternity leave- the dads need to lend a hand too. And if they help out a lot maybe their wives will let them wear that shiny medal every once in a while.
This is the same administration that is against Universal Healthcare. And pre-K. There are many towns on this country with no hospitals- how are all these moms going to get pre-natal care and deliver safely? 40 percent of mothers who give birth are on Medicaid- the same Medicaid Republicans are looking to cut. As well as SNAP programs that feed hungry children in school.
The giving birth part is one thing. The raising them up part is completely another. Not everyone has Musk’s money where they can afford 14 kids. Let me amend that last statement- 99 percent of our country cannot afford 14 kids.
We are the least generous and compassionate country in how we treat our moms and children. If you want to see how it’s done correctly check out the Scandinavian Countries- cradle to grave care. No medals however.
I hope Trump gives this whole medal idea a little more thought before he initiates it. Because I have a strong feeling it’s not going to work.
*Convicted Felon
What an imbecile he is.
I wish this were a joke. Could he be more sexist? But I guess if we increase childhood mortality with measles, school shootings, hunger and disease, people may again have more kids so some one will care for them in their old age when social security is also gone. Returning to the 18th century.
Ack to the 18th century!
