I had a similar situation about 37 years ago while on a road trip to see Grandma and Grandpa. On the way home we stopped for the night at a hotel, and when we got home realized that my son's teddy bear was missing. I called the hotel and they said it hadn't turned up, but they would look. Fortunately one of the housekeeping staff found it and sent it to us. I'll be forever grateful to the staff at Andersen's (famous for pea soup) hotel in Buellton, Ca. Sadly, I heard it's slated for closure.

We went through this with our oldest son. He a Raggedy Andy doll, which he called "Ee-Ay" (the kid made up his own language, what can I say?). We took a trip to Inner Harbor in Baltimore, and Ee-Ay apparently stayed behind at the restaurant we stopped at before heading home. We did purchase a new one, but it just wasn't the same. Multiples are a great idea!

What a wonderful world we live in even now with all the chaos going on. It was very uplifting to read how kind people can still be. I hope Mattie the First is returned to you.But I am glad you got the 2 just in case. My daughter had a stuffed dog named Zoe that was in delayed luggage once when we took a trip to Disneyland. Thank goodness our luggage arrived a few days late but with Zoe safely returned. I still have Zoe safe and sound in my closet. She is available for whenever Marie wants her back.

Oh my goodness. My heart was breaking until you said you were able to find two more Matties.

I still have my childhood teddy bear, which was a gift from my grandparents. I used to take Ted on our car trips. I'm so thankful he never went out on an adventure without me!

Oh I have been there. My youngest was hospitalized with RSV at the age of 2. He had a "baby" that was basically a doll face in the body of a stuffed animal. He loved this, it went everywhere with him ...of course to the hospital also. Well lo and behold it disappeared one morning. We think it got scooped up in the sheets also. I went on a scramble to find another....never did. So when he was released we headed over to Toy R Us and he got to pick out a new baby. It wasn't the same, and he still to this day will mention baby .... He's now 22!! So they never forget.....
