Let me be clear, I am 83 and still kicking. Wish I could be more positive about the healthcare in this country, but I am, after all, in my dotage and on Medicare. Just had a bit of a shock when I went to pay for a Rx and the pharmacy informed me that it was $160.00, when I had been paying somewhere around $60.

I am now in the so called “donut hole”, and i’d like to know who came up with that asinine term..it is the gap that I will stay in until I have paid my way out of the donut to the tune of around $7,000. My daughter said that it’s supposed to change next year, but we will see. Thank goodness I live with her and get the benefit of “free stuff” like room and board. I contribute where I can and she gets to take me off her taxes as a dependent. I have been retired for a number of years now, but I can remember living on my own with $ to spare with less that I receive now, and now I don’t know how I would make it without my family. Good news is that Tim in great health and aiming for 100 and at least I will outlive Cheeto, which makes me proud.

Our healthcare system has been broken for a very long time. 20 years ago two of my doctors told me I needed surgery (a hysterectomy). My insurance company said no. That although I did have the three items from column A and four from column B they required the insurance company said my tumors were not big enough. Yet. Thankfully both my doctors fought with them and won. I sure the system has only gotten worse since then.

Now we have elected a government that also wants to tell women what they can and can’t do and what they need and don’t need. I cannot imagine how many may die in the next four years because of this.

As for Mangione - I know he had a surgery. I guess we don’t know if it didn’t turn out as doctors said it would or thought it would. But he did have the surgery. I am assuming his doctor’s request was not denied. Or if it was his family could pay for it.

But either way taking the life of someone else is a horrible thing. He needs to be held accountable and prosecuted for his actions.

We cannot make him into a folk hero.

Having stage2 endometrail adenocarcinoma cancer I've been denied several times, but I am my own advocate. I call , email and whatever I need to do to get treatment I needed .I also have the best PCP Dr. who I've had over 30 years . Whatever or whenever he changes insurance plans I follow him cause he has always helped me get the authorizations needed with lengthy descriptions. I also wished he had called his parents. 😢🙏❤️

Our healthcare system is dismal at best. When my son was 14 years old, he was given a life saving liver transplant. After over 61 days in the hospital, he had complications, we were finally released to home. When I tried to fill his immune suppression prescriptions, insurance denied it. It took the outpatient co-ordinator placing a very choice word phone call to them stating “you can not approve a life saving surgery, then deny them the drugs to keep them alive. I am his advocate now and fight tooth and nail for everything!

I'm so with you on this one. I worked as an RN for over 40 years and know just how crappy the Insurance companies can be. Tried to keep my language civil. 💓🇮🇱💙

I have to jump through hoops to possibly get a more effective medication for my type 2 diabetes. Possibly. It will help me to lose some weight and get more control over it. From what I've gathered my A1C needs to be fairly high on my current meds. It's crazy.

Don't get me started on the lack of mental health resources either. I've seen resources decline year after year. Plus...it has been never been easy to navigate what help is in place. Having to figure out where to get help, how to get meds and counseling, how to get help paying for meds when you don't have insurance is daunting. It's so hard to get help to feel and be better when you're feeling so low. Ask me how I know. Go ahead...Ask me.

I’ve been there. I know too. But I did have insurance so that was a help for meds

I agree with you that some changed with Luigi but I wondered if he was on pain meds. Depression could a factor too.

Maybe the good thing that comes out of this is that people will start to speak out more against the corrupt Healthcare System. We need a better system that's for sure. I too wish he had been in contact with his family. I hope he gets a good lawyer and a fair trial.

Yahoo news reported- Luigi Mangione suffered from spondylolisthesis, a back condition. Experts say it can cause 'massive' pain.
