I agree, the past is the past, and we all know that choosing to run for re-election was a mistake on Biden's part, though well-intended. He had done a good (though not perfect) job for 4 years and deserved to retire when he was ahead of the game. I don't know if the election would have turned out differently if he had chosen to step aside and let Harris run the full race. Maybe she would be President, or possibly another Democrat, we'll never know.

In the meantime, we need to deal with what is vs. what could have been. To that end, I read Heather Cox Richardson daily, as she ties history to current events, and Robert Reich, as he lays out what is happening now and what we can do to stop it.

Tapper's book will not be on my reading list, either. Let's not kick a man when he's down, just let him enjoy whatever years he has left.

I'm completely disgusted at how much time and effort the media is putting into this book. What about the complete shit show that is happening before our very eyes as our country disintegrates? I heard about a snippet from the book on possibly considering a wheelchair for Biden. So??? are we now shaming for needing a wheelchair? That is so offensive.

“Hot Wheels “ Abbott (governor of Texas) has been in a wheelchair for many, many years! It’s crazy how he’s against DEI but he has everything made exclusively for him….ramps, elevators, electric chair, etc. (which the taxpayers pay for). Yet he wants to take DEI, Disability Insurance, Medicaid and Medicare from everyone else. And…we can’t forget Franklin D. Roosevelt!!

Cruelty is the point. I’ve never seen such a disgusting lack of empathy as I do from republicans

That book, along with 99% of the rest written in the same genre, will not be on my reading list. Most of us know that Biden wasn't truly up to a second term, but I sincerely hoped he would win a second time and then resign in favor of Harris. I don't know if that was ever discussed behind the scenes, but it's obviously something that couldn't have been publicly addressed. So we soldier on, get through this mess, and take our country and constitution back! It won't be easy, but it's necessary.

I didn’t (and won’t) read the book, but I did read the New Yorker’s interview with the authors. It was disheartening, to say the least. When will we learn that what we were taught in childhood was correct: honesty is the best policy? I just hope the people who perpetrated this fraud are fully aware of their complicity in our current disaster.

I agree. It'll probably make lots of $$$$ but this should not be our focus now. Our focus should be saving democracy in the USA. Perhaps this book did need to be written, but it's not what we need right now.

Thanks for not doing us any favors, Jake.

So totally agree Marlene. I think Biden’s decision to run again was not well thought out by a lot of people but his dedication to this country, democracy and decency will always be what comes to mind in my memories of him. Will always remember how he came to the rescue after Trump’s first fiasco as president. (I never capitalize the p in president when referring to Trump because he is a very small minded man.) Also, will definitely remember people in a negative way like Tapper who would throw someone under the bus who has done such incredible good for our country.

I 100% agree. Yes, in hindsight, he definitely should have bowed out and stayed out, BUT agree that his decency, honesty and work ethic will always be what I think of when I think about Joe Biden. Also, there is a completely different way that Biden's and Trump's competence have been judged. So, Tapper please write a book about Trump's failures and incompetence. I'm sure it would take a LONG TIME and a LOT of WORDS to write but you'd be doing the US and the world a favor!

The timing of this book release and the msm grabbing ahold of it while ignoring a gazillion critical issues- sickening. But somehow able to report that by their calculations, the 2026 and the 2028 elections are now polluted. Appalling

i agree --- I'm reading Racheal Maddow's latest "prequel" right now-- and tho it's a blatant correlation of what leading us to fascism right now I'm ready to put it down as its more like a college history book than naught. guess I'm tired too marlene--- so let's just keep on by keeping on -- thanks so much for your always astute views

Yep! That’s water under the bridge. Time to look forward and solve the existing problems. There are plenty of them to go around.

I agree. Nothing is to be gained by vilifying President Biden. Bless him as I hear he has new struggles to navigate. What can we do about now?

I agree whole heartedly with you. This book is not what we need right now. We are deep in a much worse situation with no obvious way out anytime soon.

Let's fix this then we can reflect back on what happened concerning Biden.

We have more important things to work on that need to be worked on. I'm looking forward not back while trying to rectify the current situation.

Besides, who would you rather be dealing with, Biden and his issues or the current situation?

ENOUGH. Fix this here and now.😡

A very good man who made a very bad mistake. How 'bout "them dems":who stupidly voted for the orange filth? They may be smelling the coffee right about now. President Biden, over 4 yrs, began to right the ship. Think he deserves credit for that. As for tapper: BEGONE!!

I won't be reading that book and I'm ashamed of Jake Tapper for writing it. I think possibly Joe could have won and not being able to serve, we would have Kamala as President. I still think there was something fishy about Dump's win, but I'm not smart enough to figure out what happened.
